National Bee Board (NBB)

  • National Bee Board as a Registered Society under Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 on 19th July 2000 at New Delhi & promoted by the Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC).
  • In May 2005, Beekeeping has been included as a supplemental activity under National Horticulture Mission (NHM) for promoting cross pollination of Horticultural Crops.
  • In view of the tremendous scope for increasing productivity due to cross pollination and increase in income through Apiculture, it was proposed to revive Beekeeping activity in the country, exponentially by pooling the resources of the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation with other organization, including private sector.
  • Accordingly, the National Bee Board (NBB) was reconstituted in June, 2006.

Objectives

  • Overall development of scientific beekeeping in India by popularizing state of the art technologies through the governmental schemes of National Horticulture Mission and Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States in the country.
  • Development of nucleus stock production, capacity building programmes and training of bee breeders and beekeepers, processing, research work, etc. and conducting of seminars.
  • Dissemination of information on technological advancement in the field of beekeeping through its various publications and the quarterly magazine Bee World.
  • Initiating steps for quality honey production and other bee hive products for overseas and domestic markets besides enhancing productivity of various crops through bee pollination.
  • Increasing the employment opportunity in rural sector and thus enhancing the ancillary income of the beekeepers & farmers.

Central Bee Research and Training Institute (CBRTI)

  • CBRTI is an apex institute setup in 1962 at Pune with an aim to strengthen the apiculture research and training in Indian Beekeeping Sector.
  • Currently, KVIC and CBRTI with its extensive network of 15 State Beekeeping Extension centers (SBEC), 100 registered institutions, Cooperatives and State Khadi and Village Industrial (VI) Boards is undertaking training programs throughout the country.

All India Bee Keepers Association

  • Located at Pune.
  • It publishes Indian Bee Journal.

KVIC

  • The KVIC is charged with the planning, promotion, organisation and implementation of programs for the development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas in coordination with other agencies engaged in rural development wherever necessary.
