Before You Arrive
Documents to Carry (Mandatory)
Always carry a neat folder with all originals + self-attested photocopies:
| Document | Notes |
|---|---|
| IBPS Interview Call Letter | Printed, not just phone screenshot |
| Photo ID proof | Aadhaar / Passport / Driving Licence |
| 10th, 12th, Graduation certificates | Original + photocopy |
| Marksheets (all semesters) | Panels often ask about your weakest semester |
| Degree certificate / Provisional | If convocation pending, carry provisional |
| Caste/Category certificate | SC/ST/OBC — if applicable |
| Experience certificate | If claiming work experience |
| Passport-size photographs | Carry 4–6 extras |
| Bank account proof | If asked (cancelled cheque or passbook) |
Missing even one document can disqualify you from that day's interview. Prepare the folder the night before.

Entering the Room
Standard protocol:
- Knock twice on the door before entering.
- Open the door calmly, enter, and close it behind you gently.
- Greet the panel: "Good morning / Good afternoon, Sir / Ma'am" — make eye contact with the Chairman first, then acknowledge others with a smile.
- Wait to be asked to sit. Do not sit before being offered.
- Place your document folder on the table in front of you, not on your lap.
- Sit upright — back straight, both feet on the floor. Do not cross legs or slouch.
During the Interview
Eye Contact
- Look at the person asking the question — do not fix only on the Chairman.
- Occasionally glance at other panel members as you answer (they are evaluating you too).
- Do not look at the ceiling, floor, or your folder while answering.
Voice & Pace
- Speak clearly, at a measured pace. Nervousness makes people rush — consciously slow down.
- Adequate volume — not too soft (sounds unsure) and not too loud (sounds aggressive).
- It is fine to answer in Hindi if more comfortable — the panel accommodates this.
When You Don't Know an Answer
Never say "I don't know" and stop.
Say: "I don't have complete information on that, but based on what I know..." and attempt an answer. Panels respect honest effort over silence.
If completely blank: "I'm sorry, I'm not aware of the exact details on that, but I'll make sure to study this." — graceful, honest, professional.
Handling Pressure Questions
Panels deliberately ask incorrect assertions to test your composure:
- "You said X, but actually it's Y, isn't it?"
- If they're wrong: politely but firmly hold your ground — "With due respect Sir, I believe the figure is X, because..."
- If you were wrong: acknowledge immediately — "Thank you for the correction, Sir. I stand corrected."
Never argue aggressively. Never capitulate just to please.
Thinking Time
It is completely acceptable to say: "May I take a moment to think, Sir?" — panels respect thoughtful answers over rushed ones.
Body Language Checklist
| Habit | Correct | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Posture | Upright, relaxed | Slouching, leaning back |
| Hands | Rested on table or lap | Fidgeting, pen clicking, hair touching |
| Legs | Both feet on floor | Crossed legs, bouncing foot |
| Eye contact | Panel-wide | Staring at ceiling / lap |
| Smile | Natural, occasional | Forced grin throughout |
| Nodding | When listening | Constant excessive nodding |
Exiting the Room
- When the Chairman says "Thank you, that will be all" — that is your cue.
- Stand up, collect your folder calmly.
- Thank the panel: "Thank you for your time, Sir / Ma'am."
- Push your chair back gently. Walk to the door calmly.
- Do not rush, do not look relieved or defeated — maintain composure until you are fully out.
Day-of Checklist
- Document folder packed and complete
- Dress ironed and laid out the night before
- Shoes polished
- Phone charged (silent during interview)
- Alarm set for 2 hours before reporting time
- Venue and route confirmed
- Light breakfast eaten (avoid heavy meals)
- Revised 5 key topics the evening before
- Slept at least 7 hours
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Arriving late — no recovery from this.
- Leaving documents at home — prepare folder night before.
- Sitting before being offered — shows lack of awareness.
- Speaking only to the Chairman — ignore other panelists at your peril.
- Arguing with panel — even if you're right, do it politely.
- Lying on biodata — panels cross-check; if caught, instant rejection.
- Giving rehearsed-sounding answers — especially for "Tell me about yourself."
- Mentioning salary as the #1 motivation — it's the last thing to mention.
- Switching language mid-sentence unnecessarily — pick English or Hindi and stay consistent.
- Not having an opinion on farm loan waivers — this is a classic panel question. Have a balanced view ready.
Mental Preparation
- The night before: light revision (not cramming), early sleep.
- Morning of: do not check social media or news (avoid anxiety triggers).
- In the waiting room: review your self-introduction and 3–4 strong answers.
- Remember: the panel wants you to succeed. They are not your enemies. They are checking fit.
- If you get a tough question: slow breath, take a second, then answer. Composure IS being evaluated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What documents are mandatory for the IBPS AFO interview? You must carry the IBPS interview call letter (printed), a valid photo ID (Aadhaar/Passport/Voter ID), all academic marksheets and certificates (originals + photocopies), and the handwritten declaration. Missing even one document can result in same-day disqualification.
Q: What should I wear to the IBPS AFO interview? Men should wear a light-coloured full-sleeve formal shirt, dark formal trousers, and polished leather shoes. Women should wear a cotton salwar suit with pinned dupatta, a formal saree, or a blazer with formal trousers. Avoid jeans, sneakers, bright colours, and heavy jewellery. The panel evaluates professional grooming in the first 10–20 marks.
Q: How early should I arrive for the IBPS AFO interview? Arrive at least 30–45 minutes before your reporting time. The reporting time on the call letter is not your interview time — you will likely wait. Being late has no recovery.
Q: What do I do if the panel asks a question I don't know? Never say "I don't know" and stop. Say: "I don't have complete information on that, but based on what I know..." and attempt an answer. If completely blank: acknowledge honestly — "I'm not aware of the exact details but will study this." Panels reward honest effort over silence or bluffing.
