What is PM-KISAN?
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a Central Sector Scheme launched to provide income support to all landholding farmer families in the country. It aims to supplement their financial needs for procuring agricultural inputs and domestic needs.
The scheme became effective from 1st December 2018 and was formally launched on 24th February 2019.

Objectives

Benefits & Payment Schedule
Under the scheme, an income support of ₹6,000 per year is provided to eligible farmer families across the country. The amount is released in three equal installments (3 crop seasons) of ₹2,000 each every four months directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries (DBT).

Installment Cycle

IMPORTANT
- 21st Installment: Released on 19th November 2025 at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
- Impact: ~₹18,000 Crore transferred to ~9 Crore farmers.
- 22nd Installment: Expected in early 2026 (Feb-April).
- Mandatory: eKYC and Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts are compulsory.
Eligibility Criteria
Who is eligible?
- All landholding farmer families having cultivable landholding in their names are eligible.
- A "family" is defined as husband, wife, and minor children.
- Cut-off Date: Landholding as of 1st February 2019 is considered (except for inheritance cases).
Who is NOT eligible (Exclusion Categories)? The following categories of beneficiaries of higher economic status are excluded:
- Institutional Landholders
- Constitutional Post Holders: Former and present holders of constitutional posts.
- Government Employees: Former and present Ministers, MPs, MLAs, Mayors, Chairpersons of District Panchayats.
- All serving or retired officers/employees of Central/State Govt (except Multi Tasking Staff/Class IV/Group D employees).
- Pensioners: All superannuated/retired pensioners with monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more (excluding Class IV employees).
- Professionals: Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Chartered Accountants, and Architects registered with professional bodies.
- Tax Payers: All persons who paid Income Tax in the last assessment year.
Mandatory Requirements for Payment
To ensure transparency and seamless transfer, the following are mandatory:
- Aadhaar Seeding: Bank account must be linked with Aadhaar.
- eKYC: Electronic Know Your Customer verification (OTP based or Biometric).
- Land Seeding: Land records must be verified and seeded in the portal.
