Bird Sanctuaries & Avian Diversity

Bird sanctuaries of UP — Lakh Bahosi, Nawabganj, Okhla, Sur Sarovar, Sarus Crane habitat, migratory birds, and Important Bird Areas for UPSSSC AGTA exam.

Avian Wealth of UP

Despite its low forest cover, Uttar Pradesh supports a surprisingly rich avian diversity — over 500 bird species have been recorded across the state. The Gangetic floodplain, Terai wetlands, and numerous lakes and reservoirs provide diverse habitats for resident and migratory birds.

UP’s flat terrain with abundant water bodies makes it one of India’s premier destinations for wintering migratory birds that travel from Central Asia, Siberia, and Europe along the Central Asian Flyway.
